The Attack On Pearl Harbor

here is some information about the bombing of pearl harbor.

Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Japanese. It  was a surprise attack made by the Japanese Navy against the United States base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on the morning of December 7, 1941. The attack was supposed to stop the U.S. Pacific Fleet from interfering with military actions from Japan. Also the Japanese wanted to take over all of the Pacific Ocean so they could expand their fleet. 

Attack formation: The base was attacked by 356 Japanese fighters, bombers and torpedo planes in two waves, launched from six aircraft carriers. The first wave had 189 planes. In the second wave there were 167 planes. 

Casualties and damaged or sunken ships: Four U.S. Navy battleships were sunk and four others were damaged. The Japanese also sank or damaged three cruisers, three destroyers, and an anti-aircraft training ship. 188 U.S. aircraft were destroyed. 2,403 men were killed. Japanese losses were not very heavy: 29 aircraft, five midget submarines lost, and 65 men killed or wounded. One Japanese sailor was captured. 

Other important info:The general and the planner of the attack was Commander Fuchida and his his second in command was Admiral Isoroku Yamamote. The bombing lasted approximately 2 hours and 110 minutes. The bombing started at 7:55 A.M. Hawaii time. On December 8 Franklin D. Roosevelt declared war on Japan. That is how the U.S. got into WW II.
